Liga MB Round 11 (Regular Season): Top-ranked San Salvador wins another game

Liga MB top team - San Salvador (9-1) added another victory to their record on Friday. This time they beat eighth ranked Fantasmas (2-9) 71-66. San Salvador dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Fantasmas' 18. American center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. point guard Martin Ramos (171-1992) contributed with 16 points and 4 assists for the winners. San Salvador's coach William Avalos used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Darius Daniels (178-1997) answered with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for Fantasmas. San Salvador maintains first place with 9-1 record. Fantasmas lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. San Salvador are looking forward to face Santa Tecla (#5) on the road in the next round. Fantasmas will play against Santiagueno (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Santa Tecla was also worth to mention about. 4th placed Salvadorenos (7-4) played at the court of fifth ranked Santa Tecla (6-5). Santa Tecla defeated Salvadorenos 79-67. It was a great evening for American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) who led his team to a victory scoring 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Cristian Lora-Oliver helped adding 20 points and 16 rebounds. Power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds. Defending champion maintains fifth place with 6-5 record, which they share with Cojute. Salvadorenos at the other side keep the fourth position with four games lost. Santa Tecla will play against league's leader San Salvador at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Salvadorenos will play against A.Lobos and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in Cojutepeque was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Santa Tecla (6-5) played at the court of sixth ranked Cojute (6-5). Cojute managed to secure a 7-point victory 72-65 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for Frankyn Batista who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 21 rebounds and 4 blocks. Andravious Smith came up with 32 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Santa Tecla in the defeat. Cojute have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Santa Tecla. Cojute will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Santa Tecla will play against the league's leader San Salvador (#1) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 11 A.Lobos were beaten by Santa Ana on the road 79-68. Metapan destroyed Santiagueno on its own court 101-77.



Santa Tecla - Salvadorenos 79-67

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Santa Ana (9-2) beat at home 7th ranked A.Lobos (2-8) 79-68 on Friday. Santa Ana looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by A.Lobos' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santa Ana made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for forward Abdulbasit Ajia (200-1999) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 blocks. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) accounted for 14 points, 19 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side. Four Santa Ana players scored in double figures. American forward Sean Scott (190-1997, college: Pfeiffer) came up with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import point guard Robert Story (183, college: WSSU) added 14 points respectively for A.Lobos in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Ana have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain second place with 9-2 record having just one point less than leader San Salvador, which they share with Metapan. A.Lobos lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Brujos. Santa Ana will meet at home Metapan (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Very expected game when 10th ranked Santiagueno (1-9) was smashed on the road by third ranked Metapan (9-2) 101-77 on Saturday. Metapan looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Santiagueno's players. It was an exceptional evening for Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks. Guard Joe Araujo (187-1986) accounted for 24 points for the winning side. Five Metapan players scored in double figures. Metapan's coach Reynaldo Corrales felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American-Colombian center Freddy Asprilla (206-1988, college: Canisius) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 20 rebounds and guard Baltazar Castellon (185-1993) added 10 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Santiagueno in the defeat. Metapan have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Santa Ana. Santiagueno lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Metapan will meet league's second-placed Santa Ana on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Santiagueno will play against Fantasmas (#9) in San Vicente and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
